Professional Miner Spotlight:
Sixteen Cabbage Grove Miners take the Pledge

Sixteen E.R. Jahna, Cabbage Grove Mining, employees made a serious commitment to work safely during the company’s annual 8-hour safety refresher training held on March 26, 2005. These miners volunteered participation in the Joseph A. Holmes Professional Miner program set up to promote a positive attitude towards safety and helping new miners.

While all Cabbage Grove miners received safety training during this session, these miners met the qualification of having worked a minimum of 3 years in the mining industry without an injury enabling them to make a pledge [see below] to promote safety and mentor new miners. They will receive decals, patches, and a letter of recognition.

In addition, three miners were nominated for individual safety accomplishments to be recognized by MSHA (Mining Safety and Health Administration) – Mike Smith (foreman) 20 years no injury, Todd Borklund (plant leader) 10 years, and Robert Mock (haul truck operator), 10 years.

“We are happy to honor and request recognition for our miners who commit to working safely and helping new miners,” said mine Assistant Manager, Judy Batten. “Cabbage Grove Mining is active in safety training, both required and voluntary.”

Cabbage Grove Mining is owned and operated by E.R. Jahna Industries, Inc. E.R. Jahna employs 250 people working in the production of quality aggregate and sand products. Corporate headquarters are located in Lake Wales, Florida.
